Director Victoria Warmerdam’s I Am Not a Robot explores the complexities of human identity, technology, and artificial intelligence, while touching on themes of labeling, embracing uniqueness, equality, and feminism. The inspiration came from her repeated experience of filling out the “I’m not a robot” CAPTCHA. When the system kept rejecting her, she began to wonder what would happen if she really became a robot. This idea led her to a deeper reflection on how her existence would change if the very foundation of her belief collapsed. The film thus serves as an artistic reflection of her concerns about the clash between technology and humanity.

The film has been screened at festivals such as SITGES International Fantastic Film Festival, where it won the award for Best Short Film. It was also featured at festivals including Leuven IFF, Flickerfest IFF, HollyShorts, and Lebu IFF.

The Prague Film Festival 2025 will take place from April 23 to 26 at Kino Pilotů in Prague. Besides I Am Not a Robot, the festival will offer other exclusive screenings, including Czech premieres of films from Berlinale 2024, and masterclasses with renowned directors Gunnur Martinsdóttir Schlüter and Elżbieta Benkowska. The festival will also showcase films from exotic countries such as Qatar, South Africa, Benin, and Bangladesh, emphasizing its mission to support cultural diversity in cinema.
